Dr. King's Dream Fulfilled ? No, I Don't Think So (Never did)

On that day in November 2008 that it was announced that Barack H. Obama was to be the next president of the United States, I was elated. In this post, I just want to go into a bit of why I was so excited and more importantly some common misconceptions people had on and shortly after that day.

Being from Illinois, I was familiar with Barack Obama as a state senator. I would even venture to say that I was probably more familiar with him than many others from other parts of the country. On top of knowing him as a senator, I did have the rare pleasure to go see him speak in person at a local school my senior year of high school (I graduated a little over 4 years ago).

I did vote for Obama, and I'm not ashamed to let any and every one know. I did not vote for him just because he is black, democrat, etc., I voted for him based on the things I knew about his campaign and the direction it would be taking.

Once I found out Obama was elected President of the United States, I was speechless. I could not believe that the same America who cheated to get ex-President Bush into office for both of his terms elected a BLACK PRESIDENT! This was serious business. While many on TV were boasting that Dr. King's dream had finally been fulfilled. I begged to differ on all counts. Granted, the country was making excellent progress, but this event was only the tip of the iceberg.

After his inauguration in January, we have seen many things happen to our president. To name two very popular incidents, we have the PETA incident with the fly (how ridiculous is that, people?!!) and most recently Senator Joe Wilson telling the President that he's a lie! As many have already said - this most likely would not have happened had President Obama been of the Caucasian persuasion. But, they are giving our brother a very hard time here.

And you know what....it really pisses me off!

That is all.

Vent over.

:)
