Recession Excuses? Gimme a Break...

So, how many people are tired of companies using the economy as an excuse for everything?

We all know that unemployment rates are skyrocketing due to the current state of the economy. Everyone is trying to cut costs and make better financial decisions. This is understandable, as I understand companies want to stay in business. However, I think it is beyond tacky to use the economy as an excuse to provide your customers with crappy service.

Take one of my former credit card companies for example:

I called them to inquire about why my transactions in my online history did not add up to my current balance (the balance was higher). I was told by the rep that my $59 annual fee had been charged. In the grand scheme of things, a $59 fee is not terrible. However, if your card has a not so great interest rate (compared to other cards you carry), your lowest credit limit, and has not given you even one (small) credit limit increase since you've had it, that $59 can seem like a waste.

So, when I try to ask the rep if the fee can be waived, he says no. Then I go on with my whole spiel about how the card is crappy (I didn't use the word crappy, but you get my drift) and is doing nothing for me at this point. I then ask him about the possibility of a credit limit increase. He told me they are "not giving any credit limit increases at this time due to the economy". Granted, I know that all companies are struggling, but what kind of crap is that? You expect me to be sensitive to your financial situation but you ignore mine by charging me a ridiculous fee with no possibility of waiving it? I don't think so. Not happening. I work hard for my money, and I will be damned if I just give it away for nothingness. Needless to say, I closed the account. I'd much rather deal with companies who don't use the economy as an excuse for offering nothing to their customer base.

I'm so sick of this economy...not just because of the current circumstances (which are very jacked up) but also because everyone keeps using it as an excuse for everything under the sun.
